Catena Island is located in a temperate region, in the north hemisphere of the world of Alskyr. The island itself is thought to be the remains of a volcanic ridge, but any true volcanic activity has long ago ceased, leaving three majestic, rocky peaks that slope gracefully down to meet the ocean. The northernmost mountain, Catena Peak, is by far the largest, and within its natural caverns (with some man- and dragon-made alterations, of course) lie the halls and tunnels of Caer Catena. The middle and southern crests, Deneb and Altair respectively, are narrower but equally striking. In the summer, all but the summit of Catena Peak is rocky and barren, but starting around mid-fall, all three mountains begin to acquire the first dustings of snow. By winter, the mountains are swathed richly in white and crowned with sharp cliffs of ice, but the spring thaw soon leaves the peaks bleak and gray again. The island itself is about six hundred miles wide at its widest point, and around fourteen hundred miles in length. Except for an area of low land between Mt. Deneb and Catena Peak known as the Weeping Delta, the land gets only slightly less than average precipitation, and thus can be a little on the dry side, most notably in the summer. Due to the climate, most of the flat land at the base of the mountains is predominantly grassy and open. Horses, skirr, and other large grazing animals thrive on the rich grass in these areas, which is well-nourished with volcanic soil that faces only mild erosion. The current time is the year 602. ::Caer Catena:: ::Ausus Point Outpost:: ::Mt.
