Fleets
The fleets make up the upper two levels of Caer Catena; the fighting fleets occupy the lower of the two, while Discipulus and Diurnus Stella fill the top level. A great portion of the upper level is also devoted to a combination training ground and aerial port, where fledgling classes are held and from which the fighting fleets can be quickly deployed in an emergency. The stone hallways and rooms are brightly washed in electric lighting, and the washrooms are supplied with hot water from the same natural source that heats the dunes. Dragoners marked with an asterisk were not originally from Caer Catena, but live here at their creator's request. If you wish to fly for the Caer, you may fill out the enlistment application. {Enlist}
Stella Diurna is the leader's fleet, containing Caer personnel whose duties go beyond the physical defense of the Caer. Dragoners in this fleet are rarely deployed to fight ants or rampage plants, but instead participate heavily in the Caer's inner workings. The fleet colors are those of the Caer; navy blue on white.
Procella Daedala is the primary fighting fleet, most often sent out on smaller missions and the first deployed against mass ant migrations. Both dragons and riders are trained in close combat and are sometimes deployed after battles to sweep the terrain for escaped ants. Fleet colors are royal blue on pale yellow.
Tonitrus Gregalis provides a back-up fighting force, deployed above and behind the primary fighting fleet during large ant migrations, ready to fill in for injured dragons and riders and to add extra force if necessary. Fleet colors are burgundy on light gray.
Sagitta Celeris is the Caer's scouting fleet. Composed primarily of light and fast dragons, it is rarely used as a primary defense force, but may be called in as backup during intense battles. Individuals or pairs of Dragoners may be sent out to carry messages or supplies to outposts and Houses. Fleet colors are dark gray on pale green.
Bellator Intrepidus is the elite fighting force of the Caer. Only the strongest and the fastest pairs are allowed to enlist, and then only after extensive training under Kiriallin himself. Dragoners must excel at hand-to-hand combat, and dragons must demonstrate superior speed, agility, strength, and intelligence. The fleet is often out patrolling or on missions of its own, but can be called in at a moment's notice if the Caer needs reinforcements. Fleet colors are crimson on black.
Discipuli is the fleet for Fledglings and Bonders - anyone still in training. They do not participate in fighting, but the fledglings are put through rigorous training schedules in preparation for their lives as functional Dragoners.
Maiores is the council made up of retired Dragoners who wish to remain in the Caer's service. Some may assist in the upkeep of the library and records, some offer their skills to the kitchen or the infirmary. All are willing to talk to any young Dragoners in need of advice, and all are more than willing to offer their own opinions on the Caer's management.
