Mess Hall
Located in the lower level of the Caer's numerous caverns, the sternly-named Mess Hall is a little more homely than its designation implies. Long rows of wooden tables are set out in the large ovoid hall that must have been cleanly varnished at some point in time - now they are soft and worn from use and age, though kept zealously clean by the Caer's kitchen staff. Past the rows of tables, a door at the far end of the hall leads into the kitchen. Somewhat nondescript and occupied by storage shelves and bins and coolers, the kitchen is in nearly constant use (Catena-bred folk, most being of Italian blood, possess either a remarkable skill in the culinary arts, an uncanny taste for the highest quality food, a love of food so great that any lack of skill is forgiven, or any combination of the three). A large gas-range stove and a deep basin occupy one wall. One quiet corner shields a wicker basket, padded lovingly with blankets; sometimes a lucky visitor will encounter an extremely large black cat snoozing peacefully. No one knows quite where she came from - lovingly dubbed Mom by the kitchen staff because of her constantly overbearing nature, the maternal black feline showed up one day and adopted the Caer as her home. She roams where she pleases, sometimes visiting riders up in the Fleet Corridors or greeting visitors out on the Landing Flat. Her eyes, filled with bemused intelligence, often turn their inquisitive gaze on visitors to the Caer; a strange but fulfilling sort of welcome, to be acknowledged by such a mysterious creature.
"Mom" is from Trandiok Glacier
