Background and Personality: Soumil is approximately 110 years old, although since her time on the road started she’s been keeping much less careful track. By human standards this makes her quite old, but by elven standards, she is just past maturity.
Although gifted with slight magical ability. Soumil’s interests have always run towards the scientific, particularly astronomy and physics, although anything that can be examined and analyzed (and won’t squirm away) is fair game. She is far more obsessed with research and discovery than her conservative kind would have it, and as such, she had a way of standing out as somewhat of an embarrassment even when she lived among the elves. She does not use her slight magical gift for typical purposes, instead favoring it to aid in her research: shaping the lenses of her homemade telescopes, making her measuring devices more sensitive, and other such uses. From so much training in this direction, it is pretty much useless when it comes to anything else.
Though Soumil’s mind is acute, her emotional intelligence is rather lacking, and she shows no signs of wanting to remedy this. She is blunt, fond of calmly making observations she really ought to have kept to herself, and seems strangely unfazed by the comments of others. Needless to say, she is also a loner, although she finds humans far more appealing than those of her own kind. However, with her demeanor, it is often hard for those humans to tell this.
Soumil has lived in exile for eight years with her human lover Seiji. During the war, Soumil sheltered the deserter; as she cared for him, she grew to form a strong bond of affection that has lasted ever since (despite Seiji’s best efforts to the contrary). It was the first such bond the logic-obsessed girl had formed, and the one that ultimately cost her the priveledge of living in her ancestral home and counting herself among the Elven; as such, she defends it with an uncharacteristic sensitivity. During this time she also renounced her name, and tells no one what it was before she adopted Soumil (a shortening of the Elven words for “drifting leaf”) as her moniker. Although she is not ready to feeling, what feeling she has runs deep, and Seiji is the most obvious example.
Physical Description: Soumil stands a stately six-foot-two, with a slender-but-toughened build and small breasts and hips. Her face is a sharp oval pointed at the chin, with straight brows, a small, slightly fussy mouth, a long delicate nose and large leaf-green eyes. Her skin looks like it might have had the capacity to be milky had years on the road and a general lack of caring enough to bother with beauty products not roughened it to its current state. Her hair is black and shoulder-length, bound tightly in a no-nonsense braid. Aside from occasional and inexplicable fits of vanity (she is, after all, an elf), her general appearance is of a woman who could be a great beauty if she tried a little harder. She is often seen carrying a large black bag, as she refused to leave behind her best telescope when leaving behind her previous life, and the ungainly object has become somewhat of a security blanket. |
